Seabury Resources for Aging ® CEO Dawn M. Quattlebaum Wins 2024 EXCEL Award

Seabury Resources for Aging proudly announces that CEO Dawn M. Quattlebaum has been named the recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Chief Executive Leadership (EXCEL) Award. This prestigious award, presented annually by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement since 2005 and sponsored by GRF CPAs & Advisors, recognizes exceptional nonprofit chief executives in the region for outstanding leadership, community engagement, and strategic innovation.

Ms. Quattlebaum has served Seabury’s mission for 34 years, starting as Administrator of the Friendship Terrace independent living retirement community and rising to CEO in August 2020. Upon taking the top leadership position, she navigated how to continue delivering affordable senior housing & services during the pandemic, as well as how to position Seabury for sustainability by changing unsustainable housing and programs. At Friendship Terrace, she coordinated a $16M refinancing that has made 125 units deeply affordable to the lowest income seniors and worked with the Board of Governors to start a $3M Food Trust to eliminate cost burdens around food at Friendship Terrace. Throughout her tenure, she has worked with teams at all levels of the organization to implement community driven, transparent, equitable solutions for challenging problems.

Sean Sweeney, Director of Operations for the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, shared his thoughts on Ms. Quattlebaum’s recognition: “From the first step of our Award process, the Selection Committee was impressed with Dawn’s amazing leadership skills, both from a professional and inter-personal perspective. Her leadership has been transformational for her organization, and she has proven herself to be an amazing teammate, always looking towards growth and inclusion.” The EXCEL Award includes a $10,000 professional development account for Ms. Quattlebaum and a $2,000 cash award to support Seabury Resources for Aging’s staff with professional development. This year’s award emphasizes innovation in leadership, with a focus on motivation, community building, ethical integrity, and strategic leadership.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Center with the 2024 EXCEL Award,” said Dawn Quattlebaum. “This award is a testament to the incredible work of the Seabury team, and I am grateful to have such dedicated and talented individuals supporting our mission to enrich the lives of older adults in our region.” In addition to the award winner, the Center congratulates honorable mentions Dr. Indira Henard, Executive Director of the DC Rape Crisis Center, and Julie Fabsik-Swarts, CEO of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA). Seabury Resources for Aging extends its heartfelt thanks to GRF CPAs & Advisors and the selection committee for their continued support and dedication to recognizing nonprofit leadership excellence.
