More Than a Meal: How Billy Anderson Creates Community at Seabury

When you step into the dining hall managed by Billy Anderson, you’re immediately greeted by warm smiles, lively music, and a sense of family. Billy has been a dedicated member of our Seabury team for years, and his heartfelt commitment to supporting older adults shines through every activity he plans. From bingo games to health discussions, Billy knows how to bring people together.

“We focus on making every activity meaningful and enjoyable,” Billy shares. “Health promotion isn’t just about information—it’s about creating a space where people feel empowered to learn and take charge of their well-being”

A Heart for Giving Back

Billy’s enthusiasm is rooted in gratitude for his own life experiences. After overcoming personal challenges, he discovered his true calling: helping others.

“I found my gift was to give back,” Billy explains. “I’m 70, but I don’t let that stop me from doing anything. Age is not where we stop—it’s where we keep going.”

His commitment to service stretches well beyond his daily programs. Whether he’s distributing donated coats or sharing resources for housing support, Billy makes sure everyone who walks through his doors feels seen and cared for.

“The response has been incredible,” Billy says. “Seeing the joy on residents’ faces as they share stories over a meal—it reminds us all of the power of community.”

Bringing People Together

Beyond organizing activities, Billy plays a crucial role in community support. Whether it’s assisting with housing needs, financial guidance, or simply providing a listening ear, his impact reaches beyond the walls of Greenleaf’s dining center.

“It’s about building relationships,” Billy explains. “Helping residents navigate challenges and seeing them grow—it’s the most rewarding part of what I do.”

With decades of cooking experience, Billy loves sharing homemade dishes and celebrating milestones with a hearty meal. But his creativity extends beyond the kitchen, his famous bingo sessions draw crowds of 40 or more, bringing energy and excitement to every game. He firmly believes that staying active and social is key to healthy aging.

A Welcoming Community

At the end of the day, Billy’s dedication is about making each person who walks in the door feel at home. He thrives on building connections, whether it’s with local property managers, fellow staff, or the older adults who attend his programs. His open-door policy encourages anyone—regardless of age or ability—to enjoy activities, companionship, and support.

In addition to health and social initiatives, Billy has a keen eye for recognizing the hidden talents of residents. Whether it’s poetry, painting, or other creative expressions, he ensures that every individual can share their gifts.

“We have so many talented individuals here,” Billy notes. “Giving them a platform to express themselves not only boosts their confidence but also strengthens our community.”

Looking Ahead

As Billy continues to lead fun, engaging programs, he remains focused on creating a warm, inclusive environment for all.

“You’re never too old to have fun,” Billy says with a grin. “I tell everyone: Just because you’re over 50 or 60 doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life. The main thing is getting out of the house. Once they’re here, we have a ball! We are family.”

Thank you, Billy, for everything you do to make Seabury a place where our older adults can thrive!
