Camp Seabury Builds Intergenerational Bonds

Seabury at Friendship Terrace transformed into Camp Seabury this August as 25 youth joined residents for a week of fun.

Camp Seabury, in its second year, was created to foster intergenerational connections between older adults and youth. Campers ranged in age from 3 to 15 years, but they quickly formed friendships with Seabury at Friendship Terrace residents. Campers and residents shared meals, played games together, and even celebrated an ice cream social at the week’s end.

Residents shared their stories of summer camp and life in DC with campers, many of whom have grown up around the same neighborhoods and landmarks. At Camp Seabury, arts and crafts, outdoor games, watching old movies, and even a water balloon fight became opportunities for new intergenerational bonds.

“Camp Seabury gave kids from across the DC region a chance to get to know each other. It was incredible to see the friendships being made within such a diverse group of kids,” Cindy Brockington, Seabury at Friendship Terrace Activity Coordinator, remarked.

We’re already planning for next year’s camp. But lucky for you, you won't have to wait till next August to help youth create lasting memories with older adults. Seabury’s housing communities welcome individuals and groups to join us throughout the year for engaging and fun volunteer experiences. We hope we’ll see you soon!
