Seabury Care Management Director

Monica, the director of the Care Management program, received her Masters of Social Work degree from Catholic University. Monica founded Seabury's Care Management Department and is the co-author of the book Empowering Social Workers for Practice with Vulnerable Older Adults. Her focus for the Care Management team is to continue Seabury's legacy of quality service that is client centered. Monica finds joy in empowering clients to make the living and healthcare decisions that are right for them. "Seabury touches so many lives—even though our impact looks different for every person and family. Finding what's uniquely best for each situation, that's what makes our work so important."

Christine Bitzer

A Care Manager and Assistant Director of Seabury Resources for Aging Care Management. Christine obtained her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, (Northern Virginia Program) and has since spent her career in non-profits; working for a home care agency where she partnered with county social workers and senior living buildings to care for lower-income seniors and those with disabilities. Christine also chaired the agency's Ethics Committee. Christine began as a Care Manager with Seabury in 2009. As part of her current role as Assistant Director, Christine also provides presentations and CEUs in the community. Christine is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and is a licensed clinical social worker in DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Yvonne Bush
Care Manager

Yvonne Bush has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Catholic University of America.  She worked for ten years in the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Department at Georgetown University, during which she won the Georgetown University Medical Center Award for “Excellence in Outstanding Patient Care” (the Medical Center’s most prestigious award for patient care).  She also served as an MSW Field Supervisor/Instructor for MSW candidates, and as the coordinator of the Oncology Patient-University Student (OPUS) program.  She served as an Advisory member on the Patient Services Committee of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and as an Advisory Board member for Roads to Recovery.  From 2005 to the present, Ms. Bush has been part of the Seabury Resources Care Management team. 

Gretchen Gaines
Care Manager

Gretchen Gaines, has her Master's in Social Work.  She has worked in health care, hospitals and hospice for the past 30 years, assisting individuals and families during chronic illness, life crises and grief. She has held positions at Georgetown Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and area hospices including Montgomery Hospice, and Capital Hospice. In addition, Gretchen is an author and made social work contributions to medical publications including a nursing book chapter on bereavement, and a children's grief book.

Leslie Mason
Care Manager

Leslie graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1994 from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She returned to the Washington DC area to teach preschool and eventually went back to obtain her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland in 1999.  Leslie began her social work career in public child welfare in Baltimore, MD and worked as a social worker in various medical settings with both pediatric and adult patients. Leslie is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and joined Seabury Resources for Aging in 2004.

Michelle McGrath graduated from University of Michigan with a Master's in Social Work and a certificate in gerontology. Michelle has over 15 years experience working to promote the well being and opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities. Her experience includes working in hospitals, adult day care, physical rehabilitation, a nursing facility and workforce inclusion. Michelle is a member or the National Association of Social Workers. She began working with Seabury Resources for Aging in 2014.

Carla graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems & Technology Management from the University of Maryland University College in 1995 and graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 2000.  Carla completed the course work and received a Geriatric certificate from the Institute for Geriatric Social Work from Boston University in 2008. 

Carla started her social work career in 2004 with Family Matters of Greater Washington, D.C. (formerly known as Family and Child) working with the senior population throughout Washington, D.C. Carla has a passion to serve, support and advocate for older adults. Currently, Carla is working for Seabury Resources for Aging in Care Management as a Geriatric Care Manager.  In this position, Carla is able to assess, recommend resources, advocate and partner with the client, family and various organizations to enlist the necessary assistance and offer assurance to provide a good quality of life.

Carla provides community service in nursing homes, Central Mission, Food and Friends.  She volunteers with the Young Lives program at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church to support young mothers and their children.  Carla helps facilitate an annual Senior Network education session at her church.  She is an active member in Howard University School of Social Work Alumni

(HUSSWAA) and is currently serving as Treasurer.  Carla is married with three adult children and six grandchildren.

Marialis Zmuda

Marialis has been a licensed clinical social worker since 1982. Specializing in geriatric care management.  She has worked for Shock Trauma, Prince George's Department of Social Services, National Children's Center, Adventist Hospital, Suburban Hospital, been in private practice, and began working fro Seabury Care Management in 2013.  She holds certificates in Gestalt Therapy and Mediation.


Sarah Laughlin
Care Manager 

Sarah Laughlin is a care manager with Seabury Resources for Aging Care Management. A recent transplant from Philadelphia, PA, Sarah received her Master of Social work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. Most recently, she worked as a care manager for Intervention Associates, a subsidiary of Friends Life Care in Plymouth Meeting, PA where she worked with older adults, guardianship clients and people with mental disabilities. Sarah worked has a inpatient hospice social worker at The University of Pennsylvania Health System. She served on the board of Penn’s Village, an aging in place organization in Philadelphia and is a member of the National Association of Social Work. Sarah is licensed in Washington, DC and Maryland.

Christina Neill Bowen, holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and a Certificate in Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has over 15 years of experience in aging and disability policy as well as experience supporting individuals and families as a care manager. She currently facilities a monthly caregiver discussion group at Sunrise on Connecticut Avenue. Christina is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a member of the Mid-Atlantic Facilitators Network.
