Age-In-Place® (AIP) provides free yard work and house cleaning to older adults over the age of 60 in wards 4, 5, and 6 of Washington, DC.

Age-In-Place® (AIP) was founded in 1995 by a dedicated group of staff at the Home First Residences (then called Christian Communities Group Homes) who noticed that their older neighbors in the community surrounding the residences were finding the physical and financial demands required to stay in their homes more and more challenging. Staff rallied together and began going out to local seniors' homes and serving where needed.

Throughout the past 20 years, AIP has grown to become an independent program, but we remain true to the original mission of serving our neighbors and providing support to help older adults age safely and happily at home.

Today our services includes yard work and house cleaning - free to those over the age of 60 - in wards 4, 5, and 6 of Washington, DC. By providing yard work and house cleaning to low and moderate income older adults through our dedicated volunteers, AIP can make the difference in whether seniors stay in their homes or must find alternative living arrangements. On top of providing the much needed physical work, volunteers spend time in conversation with each client and provide social support. Many volunteers find that talking and sharing with the person they serve is one of the most fulfilling aspects of volunteering!

Volunteer with Us

We rely on volunteers to ensure our clients receive continual and effective service. Volunteering at AIP creates a bridge for older adults to connect with their community and other generations in addition to receiving essential services to maintain their homes.

AIP volunteers range in age from middle school students to retirees. We welcome groups of volunteers from 2 to 10, up to 20 based on availability. Universities, high schools, religious organizations, civic groups, business offices and young professionals make up the core of the thousands of volunteers we welcome each year.

Not able to volunteer? You can always support us with a donation (just select Age-In-Place®). We provide all tools and supplies for our work - each contribution directly improves our service!
